I Will Wait for You Lord

Though all the forces of hell come against me,
And the devil himself seems to stand at my door.
Even if life’s circumstances find me helpless,
And I’m lying flat on my back on the proverbial floor.
I will wait for you Lord
Should everyone I know forsake me without cause,
And the powers that be drag me to a dark prison cell.
Or my own weakness cause me to stumble,
Ending up like Jonah in the belly of hell.
I will wait for you Lord.
God forbid, financial disaster should beset,
Losing everything I thought I had gained.
Or the mouths of unbelievers gnashing against me,
My reputation becoming tarnished and stained.
I will wait for you Lord.
Perhaps even riches and honor appearing,
Tempting me with pride and momentary illusion.
The enemy taunting me with what Jesus declined in the wilderness,
Maybe a short stint of directional confusion.
I will wait for you Lord.
Whether in fame or in poverty or somewhere in between,
Or sickness or health I may myself find.
Like Job, who every voice of hell he rejected,
Ending up in a state of blessing he couldn’t have imagined in his mind.
I will wait for you Lord.
Knowing that your Word is the anchor for my soul,
And that it is impossible for You to lie.
Realizing You have always been there for me sweet Prince of Peace,
And You will be until the day I die.
I will wait for you Lord.
So let whatever may come, come,
My hope and my heart is fixed on you.
And let this my life be a vessel of honor for Your glory,
Faithful to the end when all things will be made new.
I will wait for you Lord.
