I Dusted Off Your Bible Today

The phone rang. It was you,
Calling to relay to me your trouble.
For some odd reason, you exclaimed,
A tornado descended and reduced your home to rubble.

I Dusted Off Your Bible Today.

I could hear the distress in your voice,
Remembering earlier in the week your illness.
All the circumstances going wrong on your job,
Even though you felt you were doing your best.

I Dusted Off Your Bible Today.

I could hear your kids crying in the background,
Dad what are we going to do?
My mind reflecting on your marital woes,
And your telling me your debt was through the roof.

I Dusted Off Your Bible Today.

Quietly recalling my question to you “Have you prayed?”,
To which you replied, “No time for that you know!”.
I sighed as I remembered when that was your refuge,
When you were in trouble, to His Word you would go.

I Dusted Off Your Bible Today.

Alas, the tears I hear in your voice,
As the weight of your woes comes crashing down.
Barely able to utter the words, “What can I do?”,
I’ve hit rock bottom, life has knocked me to the ground.

I Dusted Off Your Bible Today.

After what seemed like an eternity of silence,
Tears of joy filled my eyes as I heard you begin to pray.
Softly I whispered, “Thank you precious Lord.”,
For bringing my son home to You today!

I Dusted Off Your Bible Today.

The doorbell rang, to my surprise it’s you, through the door with a crash,
Rushing past me in a flash.
Thanking me for teaching you the way,
Holding your bible to your heart that I dusted off today.
